The European Union Center at the University of Illinois is pleased to offer support to U of I faculty to hire a graduate research assistant in Summer 2021. This grant from the EU Center will be offered on a competitive basis in the amount of up to $1,750. Up to five proposals may be supported. Funds MUST be used by August 15, 2021. This grant is made possible by the Title VI National Resource Center grant from the U.S. Department of Education to the EU Center.
The grant is intended to support faculty research, in a time of limited mobility for travel, that could contribute to a future event in partnership with the EU Center. The call is open to different topics and historical periods as long as the European dimension is addressed in the proposal. As in a pilot Summer 2020 offering, the EU Center issues this call also as a means to support graduate students who may have limited options and/or need income/benefits over the summer. In Summer 2020, a 25% appointment for a forty-one day period was the minimum appointment to generate health insurance for a graduate student.

Announcement of awards will be made by Monday, May 10, 2021.

Recipients are asked to submit by August 31, 2021 a one-page report on progress that was made on the project as well as an idea for a possible future event with the EU Center. Such reports help the center demonstrate the importance of our Title VI grant to the US Department of Education.
